Spider-Man: Brand New Day Review

If you don’t know by now, I’m a superhero and anime lover, so you already knew this review was coming! 😂

On July 31, Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released, but unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see it until the following Monday. That meant I had to enter full spoiler-avoidance mode. I stayed away from social media, conversations, and anything else that might ruin the movie for me.

Honestly, I really enjoyed the movie. We already knew it was going to be an emotional rollercoaster, but I pulled through—even though watching it by myself probably made the emotional moments hit a little harder. So, without further ado, here is my review of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

The Beginning

The movie starts with Peter sitting on a rooftop, watching videos of MJ and Ned. Then, as soon as he hears a police scanner, Peter jumps off the building and swings into action.

And let me just say this: Peter is definitely jumping off those rooftops with a purpose. 😂 He needs that adrenaline. It feels like he is using Spider-Man to keep himself distracted so he doesn’t have to sit around thinking about everything he has lost.

We also meet Frank, and honestly, I thought his interactions with Peter were hilarious. However, I do feel like the movie could have used him more. His role was a little disappointing because I think there was more potential there. I also really liked the relationship between Peter and the police. It shows that Spider-Man has built a level of trust within the community.

Then we meet the mysterious person controlling the people behind the criminal activity. Peter eventually speaks with Yelena to get information about the suspect. I was genuinely surprised to see her because she was such an unexpected character. But honestly, I adore Yelena, so I was not complaining!

Peter’s Trauma

After getting the information he needs, Peter eventually encounters Ned and MJ, and this is where the emotional damage really begins.

Just seeing MJ with a new boyfriend was painful. Peter is basically watching the people he loves move forward with their lives while he is stuck carrying the memories of everything that happened.

At this point, I started thinking that Peter was experiencing his own second life—or maybe what I like to call adult puberty. 😂 The man was going through an entire emotional crisis while still trying to save New York.

And when I say Peter was a BEAST while fighting Scorpion, I mean it! He was swinging, flipping, and throwing hands like he had been waiting all day to release some anger.

The Hulk and Jean Grey

Peter eventually finds his suspect, who releases the Hulk. Surprisingly, Hulk remembers Peter, which is probably one of the most important moments in the movie because Peter desperately needs someone who remembers who he was.

However, Peter makes a huge mistake when he captures Jean Grey. He eventually realizes that he has handed her over to people who intend to hurt her.

At that moment, Peter’s Spider-Sense was definitely out of office. 😂

Jean fights back, but Peter manages to calm her down. He even takes a shot for her, proving once again that Peter Parker will risk his life to save someone—even if that person is considered a villain.

That is one of the things I love most about Spider-Man. No matter how much pain he is experiencing, he still tries to do the right thing.

Ending Review

To say Peter went through some serious emotional struggles would be an understatement. The girl he loves is living her life without remembering him, his best friend is enjoying his own life, and MJ even has a new boyfriend.

So, honestly, I understand why Peter was a little ape-shit. 😂

But after meeting Jean Grey, Peter realizes that he isn’t the only person dealing with trauma. Jean is hurting too, and Peter begins to understand that there has to be another way to handle the situation without causing more harm.

That realization is what makes Peter such a great hero. He could have chosen revenge, anger, or violence, but instead, he chooses compassion.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really enjoyed Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The action was great, the storyline was concise, and the emotional moments actually had weight. At the same time, the movie left me wanting more, especially with certain characters who I felt could have been used better.

Peter’s journey was emotional, funny, chaotic, and, at times, downright heartbreaking. Watching him try to move forward while still holding onto the past made the movie feel more personal.

Was it perfect? No.

Did I enjoy it? Absolutely.

Did I yell at the screen more than once? Mind your business. 😂
